good friend, good cause, good tidings!

Looking to pump up your good deeds before Santa reviews his list?  My lovely friend J.Lo has just the answer. She’s a great gal, and this is a great cause.  PS–as added perks for the us easily-amused folk, the website is 1. interactive and 2. talks to you!

In hopes of spreading a little holiday cheer and charity, I set up a food drive for Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. We’re holding a traditional food drive on campus, but the Chicago Food Depository also offers virtual food drives (how innovative!). The virtual drives make it easier to incorporate people who don’t physically come to campus, and that’s why I’m reaching out to you all. If you were considering giving me a little gift or a card around the holidays, I would request that you instead donate some food through the virtual food drive: http://vad.aidmatrix.org/vadxml.cfm?driveid=3977

I’ll spare you any tear-jerking stories, but I will say that after teaching in Houston for two years, I’ve realized how much kids in low-income areas depend on food from free breakfast/lunch programs and food banks. Much of the reason I set this up was to help kids in the Chicagoland area, and a third of the food recipients of the Chicago Food Depository are children. I know that some of you are really strapped for cash due to the economy, so don’t feel obligated to donate. However, the cheapest item you can purchase is milk for $3.15, which would be a fine donation and about the same cost as a greeting card with postage.

Feel free to let me know if you donate so I can thank you profusely. If you know anyone who would be amenable to such a cause, feel free to forward this on to other people. The virtual food drive will be active from now until 12/18. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know, and if I don’t talk to you before Thursday, Happy Thanksgiving!

Take care,
(J.Lo)

If you’d like to connect w/ J.Lo directly, drop me a note in the comments and I’ll pass on her email. Happy Holidays!
